Last night I was modifying the Power management in the BIOS and when ever I shutdown the system it'll boot up right back up again. This happened few times even after I modified the BIOS and all of sudden it won't even boot up. It wasn't detecting the HDD which is in Primary master IDE1. I removed the connector to IDE1 and connected to IDE2 which was occupied with CD-ROM and It boot up fine with exception with IRQ conflict with Modem.

Does this mean my IDE1 is gone? Would I need a new motherboard? I don't know if it's under warranty because it's been less than a year ago I bought this MB from a vendor.

Is there a way around not using IDE1 and still use CD-ROM? I thought I connect cable coming off of HDD to CD-ROM but that didn't work. How would I connect CD-ROM now IDE2 is occupied with HDD?

Any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks,

James

If you can get into your board's BIOS set it to defaults settings or use the clear CMOS jumper.

I did try default bios but still didn't detect HDD. It'll only detect when I connect HDD to Secondary IDE2

Is my IDE1 dead?

Did you connect it to IDE2 using the same cable? Did you try clearing the CMOS? When you tried connecting the CD-ROM to the same cable as the HDD did you remember to set the cd's jumper to slave? Also, some HDD's(WD) are jumped to neutral by default from the factory and need to be reconfigured to have another device on the cable with them.

This is what I would do; clear CMOS again(5 seconds), double check that the HDD is jumpered correctly(if you changed it). Also make sure the IDE cable is connected securely and properly(blue end to motherboard if its 80wire and pin1 on pin1-both ends). Then enter your bios, enter setup menu and make sure IDE channels are enabled and then configure the IDE channels to detect your drives, save and exit.
