Microsoft's G5 Power Mac Xbox Xenon development kit pix

Anyways, these things have been out for how long now? I'm surprised it took this long for them to show up. (Yes, I'm assuming the pix are real.)

I wanna see the new development kits though. I had thought that these Power Mac G5 systems were to be replaced around now.

I guess I'm not sure what I'm seeing.

So it's Apple hardware running XBox software off of an Intel processor?

I'm not hip on the console scene 🙁

The G5 dev kits have been around for what almost two years now?

No, the new Xbox will be using processors similar to those used in Apple's computers (the Xbox360 will be using a modified version of IBM's PowerPC CPU).

Next month is gonna be good for gamers. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all showing off new consoles (and maybe more), and ATi and nVidia probably showing off new video cards (or other technology).

If you think about it, the console market actually has pretty profound implications. New technology like Blu-Ray, XDR, Cell, and also an early version of Longhorn will all be showing up in consoles before it spreads elsewhere. Its certainly a much different arena than that ruled by Nintendo and Sega about 10-15 years ago.

No. The next Xbox (Xbox 360) is supposedly using 3 PowerPC cores. Or at least this is the way I understood it. Don't listen to me, google it to verify.

Edit: Damn, beaten.

Double Edit: Nintendo are not showing Revolution at E3.

😀 Finally some pictures of the beast. Remember folks, if a G5 is good enough to be MS's console development platform, it's good enough to be your home computer.😛

Yeah, similar in that they'll be PowerPC with Altivec, but just to be clear, they're not really that close to G5s.

The G5s are much more powerful per clock, but the Xbox is going to a chip that's faster clocked than any current G5, and it's going to be triple core too. The instruction set is the same though.

Something like that I think, but this the first time I've seen a pic.
