I registered to attend on of these events a couple of weeks ago figuring maybe I could win a door prize. I have never been to anything like this before. Is it semi-formal? informal? Completely informal? Will jeans and a t-shirt do? I don't want to look like a complete bozo! Advice please!

Iron a pair of dress paints and a white collared shirt. Put on a solid coloured tie in a half-windsor knot. Wear a pair of nice dress shoes, preferably black. Think of it as going to a business meeting - how would you dress going to a business meeting?

Seriously though..a pair of Dockers and a button down shirt with a tie..you can always remove the tie once you are there if noone else is wearing one.

Does it matter? Everyone is going to be kissing so much Microsoft a$$ today that they won't even notice what you are or are not wearing.
Wear a novelty oversized condom on your head, and paint your body fushia.

If you're going to a software launch event, I'd suggest a pocket protector, taped eyeglasses, and a large kick me sign.

Leather jacket, dress shirt, and a nice cargo pants will fit most places. Or a Apple think different t-shirt.

Just thought I would report back on the Windows XP launch event.

First of all, I could have worn shorts (temp outside below freezing with windchill) and nobody would have noticed...

About the actual event...

Where do they get these bozos? The speech at the beginning by some VP was okay but once they started demonstating the OS it was very disorganized. Lots of lame attempts at humor...

During one part of the demo they spent a great deal of time comparing Windows XP to Windows 95. Excuse me Microsoft, but shouldn't you be comparing this product to Windows 2000 or Me (or at least Windows 98)? Unbelievalble!

A number of times they tried to show how much easier certain tasks are in Windows XP. I easily could have performed the same tasks in the same amount of time with Windows 98 SE.

At least twice, technical glitches with a computer held up the demo.

The only nice thing I saw was a demo showing how with Windows XP you can take over another persons computer from a remote site;).

Microsoft should have hired celebrities to do the presentations and just given them scripts...

One other thing...

I did not see any sign of AMD at this event. Intel was all over the place (including on the free t-shirt). When is AMD going to get a clue and hire someone who knows how to market a product?

You should have dressed up as one of the guys from Slipknot. Gas mask and an orange jumpsuit with a bar code on the front.

Ryan :)

Same thing at mine. Of course they were Compaq computers running Intel CPUs.
