I'm burning a submission draft of my novel onto CD for my agent, and as I'm scrolling down print preview I notice all sorts of carriage returns and crap which screw up the pagination, which intersperse blank pages. There's also garbage characters around the same area.

What's the deal, does Word choke on large documents and corrupt them? Because the last time I printed this out it was fine, and I have only done minor editing of the document since.

Damn that sucks. Were you able to fix it though? I want to know why that happened too.

I absolutly hate Word, I have no Idea how MS Word became the most common word prossesor. WordPerfect is so much better, and cheap too.

Word is not perfect, but i suspect no word processor is. I use it cautiously and avoid getting reamed. How big was your document?

Yeah. Hopefully it will stay that way!

~500 printed pages, around 700K.

I've always used Notepad.

See above. :D

So I take it you wouldn't be interested in the MS word trick in this thread. :Q

Sucks that your draft messed up. :(

Do you know if Open Office has any decent form of bookmarking within a document? Like commands to quickly move to various points...?

That is why I use Notepad+. It is Notepad with a couple extra feature and the ability to open large documents. I did get it to screw up on my 42 mb punishment document though.
