darnit i didn't write down the exact error.

word gave the error: c++/visual basic error. abnormal operation/program abort. all you can do is hit "OK" and the program will shut down.

already uninstalled/reinstalled word once. what can i do to not have this happen again? This is on my bf's laptop that he uses for law school, and we're checking to see if his exam software draws off of word, because that would be a disaster.

Is there any other software running?

Microsoft Outlook can pull Word in as an email editor, and sometimes that causes problems...

It does this just opening the program, i.e. not when opening a specific file? Typically, that is a error caused by a macro.

outlook is not installed - only whatever came in the works package.

EDIT: outlook express may be installed, not sure, but he does not use it to check email.

the only other programs running at the time was AIM.

it happened again last night, and he googled the error. he found that sometimes norton will cause this error in word, so we're uninstalling error and we are going to put in symantec.
