Microsoft Wireless-G Xbox Adapter $59.99

I kind of was hot if you had bought Xbox Live recently. It came out to $80 + tax for both Xbox Live v3 with MechAssault (Toys R Us/Amazon $39.99) and the Wireless-G bridge ($79.99 - $40MIR) for me. 😀

you don't need a specific xbox model for this, you know. you can buy a generic one (I have a Wavit11 which is 802.11b) and it works just fine. I think it was $15.

Where did you get the Wavit11 for $15?!? That's the hot deal.

Outpost.com I think... it was 4-5 months ago, I read about the deal on this board though...

1) it was $39.99, not $15 unless you had a $25 off coupon $39.99 coupon 😉
2) it was at overstock, not outpost
3) Fry's/outpost doesn't even carry this
4) even $39.99 was a pretty good price for this

ummm... the xbox logo is pretty and all, but how is $60 for an access point a hot deal?
(not really thread crapping, since i know the "going rate" is closer to 90)

why not settle for a non-G, since 802.11b is still ~10 X overkill.

Here's a 802.11b router/BBA for $30 that I read here on AT can be configured as an AP
toshiba wrc-1000 at chump-usa

it's not on the online-spec page, but i'm 99% certain i read it on the back of the box a month or so ago
about the AP configuration.

I know this has 2X the complexity, but on the other hand -- it has 10X the functionality

How is this a hot deal your asking?
Should we even bother answering that question?

i'm just saying that with a little creativity you could cut the cost to $30 for the same functionality

Finally found the reciept... you're right it was $40, and overstock... I had $25 in credit from a return/store credit. I have 3 of these now, 1 on my xbox, 1 on my replayTV, and 1 on my ps2. They work great.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. You CAN'T connect 802.11 router directly to Xbox, no way, no how. The wireless adaptor Amazon sells is a BRIDGE, if you can find one for $30.00 please let us know.

Some routers you can. It has to operate in "ad-hoc" mode though. Some routers can be set up to act just like access points, but they're usually the more expensive ones anyway.

As far as setting up the wavit11, the directions in the box were pretty clear. You have to plug it into your computer with a crossover cable first to use their setup program and set it up... then make sure the ports are open on your router or put its IP in the DMZ or something.

Those of us trying to build an all G network prefer to get it this way. That's the only reason I can see for getting the G over a B, though.

Thanks

I had been looking to get one of these, and was just about to bite the bullet and get it full price - Glad I waited...

Does anyone know if this will work with PS2/GCN as well?

yes, but you have to get the network adapter for the system too. this is essentially a thing that 'converts' a wired ethernet adapter into a wireless one.
