Wow, thanks for that Wiki link, now I will have nightmares for a week.

People who get paid to support MicroSoft products are going to LOVE Vista, promote it like pimps, and defend it like it was their sister's honor.

XP may be the last OS that "feels" like you own it, instead of use it strictly by leave of MicroSoft.

Everyone bitched and moaned about Windows XP, when the transition from Windows 98 happened.. "bloated.. " "no significant difference from Windows 98 except for visual..."... etc.. blah.. etc..

Yet... here we are.. how many years after XP's release? With SP2, XP is now a very nice operating system. The same people that bitched and moan, now praise it as the best operating system to date.

This same transition will happen when Window's Vista is released. Once its patched, and once users learn to tweak and optimize Vista, people such as the OP will come back in a couple of years posting.. "OMFG.. Windows Vista is great".. Gotta love hypocrites.. but, you know it will happen.

But those people are idiots because there's about 100% difference between XP and Win98, but Win2K and XP is another story.

Theres 100% difference between anything pre-Win2K and Win2K and after :p

That said, like I mentioned earlier, many of the changes in Vista are below the surface. I think that is why we see these type of comments.

Ok.
Does that mean they will be "good" changes? Does it mean less security problems?

All the people that are touting the great new changes "under the hood" don't exactly know either, just because it's "under the hood" doesn't make it good.
I'm hoping it's better than XP myself and will install a beta soon enough to give it a try, but only out of curiosity. There are a few OSs that I rely on daily, windows is just one of them.

No, not hypocrites. They're saying they don't like it now. If it does get patched and working better in the future, that will be the reality then, not now. Obviously, they're reacting to the current reality which the only situation they can comment on.

Nothing new, nothing ground breaking for an OS in 4+ years of making. Probably won't be a hot seller for MS. Plus, game performance is suppose to be less than XP.

Maybe MS's next OS will be something to "look forward too" because vista is nothing more than a service pack XP could have been.

windows vista is alright. When I upgrade to, im defintly not going with the basic version. I'll probably upgrade to the ulimate version.

from what I heard the basic edition doesnt include the aero interface.
