I don't know about you, but this OS is nothing more than a beefed up Windows XP.
Nothing new, nothing ground breaking for an OS in 4+ years of making. Probably won't be a hot seller for MS. Plus, game performance is suppose to be less than XP.

Maybe MS's next OS will be something to "look forward too" because vista is nothing more than a service pack XP could have been.

OP - That's a pretty impressive way to say

"I have no idea what actually goes on under the hood of an operating system"

I understand your screams from a superficial UI standpoint... but really you should understand uhmmmm 'more'

I'm seeing about 15+% less RAM usage with build 5744 over 5728 and 20 less processes (BOOM)

This isnt an OS question, its a rant, and a piss poor one at that.

Yes, poor MS might be stuck just seilling one copy on every new pc that ships after February.

Nothing in your OP indicates that you have run the OS. How about posting some constructive criticism in one of the many Vista threads that have already been started instead of simply trolling?

You are correct ......
MS never could figure out what the real world needs.

I've been running betas since before you ever heard the codename Longhorn, 'chief'. From your responses, it looks to me your not looking for a discussion, but rather a vacation...

The RAM usage has definitely improved, but it is still significantly higher than a vanilla XP install. By about 200MB or so easily.

As for the OP, you have plenty of people who agree with you. I'm no big fan of Vista either. It does have some nice new features, but overall, I find it slow and clunky. I believe I will continue to run XP until hell freezes over :p

As the list says, new re-written network stack, new re-written printer stack, new re-written sound stack, new re-written driver system, new re-written user access system.. This release is going to me a magnitude larger then any previous release from Microsoft.

True, most of the big changes are 'under the hood' and not apparent to the end user at all.

I think what remains to be seen is how secure Vista will be with all these 'written from scratch' kernel components.

Did you complain this much when Win98 and WinME were released?

I think saying itll be far superior to XP is pushing it...

Itll be better than XP eventually yeah, worth the money though? doubt it. Its a neccesity for me though as ill need DX10 and some games may eventually not support XP. Some games dont support windows 2000 but do support XP, which is bullcrap, but thats the way it is.

First off, I ran Beta 2 and RC1 on my computer and liked the changes but switched back to XP for gaming reasons.

Vista is better than XP. But it does not run better on all computers, I will stay away from Vista until my next computer upgrade(probably a year and a half away when DX 10 cards become affordable). My problem is that(I am running an AMD 2500+ OCed to about a 3000+ with 1.5 GB of RAM)it takes too much RAM and games are not quite optimized for Vista yet. I don't care that Vista takes up 500 MB of RAM, it bothers me now, but Vista is not meant to be run on 2 year old computers. Once I upgrade, Vista will be using a small fraction of resources and when drivers are all optimized for it, it will be a good OS.
