Microsoft Windows Vista Build 5381.1

Curious as to how you like it, and if you would recommend waiting for Beta 2 to be released at the end of the month, or if you think this is close enough to the beta.

Um, of course I would recommend waiting for Beta2...the beta2 branch has bug fixes put into it every day. 5381.1 is already several builds behind.

Any idea when Beta2 is coming out? I haven't tried any builds since the Feb 5308 CTP version. It would be nice if the latest builds were available on the MSDN download site too. 😉

5342 32-bit was one hell of an experience for me... I never wanted to go back

But I tried 5365 64-bit anyways. Smooth. Nice. Still a little buggy, but I actually enjoy using it.

Soon. That's the best I can tell you for now.

Beta testers on MS connect get more frequent builds that are not CTP quality. But that program is closed, with the beta2 release on the horizon.

Yes, beta2 is going to be available for the general public.

I would wait until beta2. 5381.1 is a very good build, but beta2 will be even better.

Paul Thurrott, over on his Supersite for Windows, says that Beta 2 is due May 22nd. I am going to wait, myself.

So this means that anyone could just download beta2 and install it?

I know that sounds like a dumb question but I'm just trying to confirm...thanks!

Beta2 is supposed to be the CPP (Consumer Preview Program) release, and will ALLEGEDLY be open to anyone to download/ test.

The only way to be 100% sure is when the release actually comes.
