Microsoft Windows Updater?

I just loaded Win2k on a new machine and have been getting small pop-up saying:

"Microsoft Windows Updater has finished updating your Windows system files"

Truly, I just formatted and installed Win2K on this machine this afternoon. Iv'e run Win2K on several machines and have never seen anything like this.
The only update from Windows Update that I've done is the IE6 update. I don't have critical update notification, or even any service packs installed yet.
The only software installed yet is powerquest drive image, powerquest partition magic, acrobat reader, and nero express.

I'm stumped

Oh, also, on my add/remove programs, I have all the programs listed above, and mIRC. Why mIRC? What's it doing there? I did a search for files on my OS/Apps partition and it came up with nothing. I wish Add/Remove programs would at least give you a path. ugh.

As always, any help is greatly appreiated.

W2K must be set to update and install automatically. Mine was.

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Automatic updates

As for the mIRC; I assume it is the chat client and was embedded in one of the other programs you installed.

Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh, thank you. Damn that was driving me crazy. Little bastard was popping up every 5 minutes. Weird though. I've formatted a few computers with this same Win2k disk and never had that happen before.

The mIRC thing still has me stumped though. None of those programs I installed should have had anything to do with a chat client. And when I try to remove it using the add/remove programs panel, it says that I must first exit the program. So it's something that's starting up with windows and task manager doesn't have anything listed as 'mIRC', so it's gotta be starting with something else, just don't know what though.

See if you can find it in services.

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Services

If it is there hold the pointer over it to see what it is and if it is the chat client right click on it and stop it. Then you should be able to remove it.
