Microsoft Windows Update

I just wanted to stress that Microsoft is starting to notice they have MANY exploits that they haven't addressed. They're starting to release patches more often than once a month.
Our Snort box is still seing symptoms of exploits directetd to us. Note that this new breed can be triggered by IE, Outlook, and Outlook Express just by READING an infected item. It doesn't take a "click here" to infect you. I just wanted to let everyone know and say:

Patch Patch Patch!

Of course, I'm on Linux so I don't have as much to worry about. 😛

patching is a way of life for computer users. Soon Firefox will get into the action more often too.

When I patch, I feel complete.

My concern is those who don't realize how bad the latest string of scripts are. You might open an Email and it will run in the background....you won't have a clue that anything is happening. Same for IE, etc.. The fact that you don't have to click on a link makes this extremely dangerous.

over 2 years ago, my coworker got a virus just by visiting NYU's website... and he knows better than to click YES to anything... I'm sure there's been vulnerabilities like this in the past.

Yes... definitely patch anything and everything.

The definition of a "Critial" flaw, according to Microsoft is a flaw that can be exploited without you doing anything. You dont have to click, or open an email or anything. Non-criticals are the ones where you have to do something in order to become infected. There are always exceptions where one will be put into another catagory, but this is what I was told by a MS guy.
