Did anyone notice that the screengrab of the MS Store offer, appeared to be from a PC with some sort of "coupon malware" installed? LOL.

You have to trade in your PC and buy a new computer for $600 or more.

There's a good chance that if you're still running XP, your machine is worth less than $100, but this is really not a good deal at all.

I don't know, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. Free data transfer included as well. It's not a no-brainer by any means, but if you're looking to move on from XP due to EOL or just outdated tech, this is a pretty good deal.

Microsoft doesn't even want their Windows 8 laptops, they want to use your XP laptop instead. :sneaky:

this sounds very desperate of microsoft which is sad to see and anyway if they make it $1000 then that is what i paid for my pc. It did have windows 7 but i didn't like it very much so installed windows xp instead in 2009. this pc has been running very well and has so far had windows 7, windows xp and ubuntu 13.10. :)

Microsoft should of ditched XP a lot sooner so in a way its partly their fault,I also wonder how long XP users want to stay on XP ie 20 years,30 years?..You have to let it go sooner or later, end of the day XP users have had plenty of time and warning.

I do understand and agree with what you are saying but i am getting old now and if i can keep using windows xp offline then that would be ok because i want to retire. i used to think that being online was the best thing ever, joined facebook in 2005ish, joined twitter and joined google blogs which killed off any interest in the internet lol ;)

Worth less to whom? I suspect that a lot of people still sporting XP PCs with minimal usage requirements would rather keep their PC than have $100. Even if it was £100 UKP it's still a poor exchange.

Not to mention 2 extra years of free support. Original planed EOL was 2 years ago. There is just no excuse in my book for being stuck on XP, unless you have a very good reason. (f.x. needed for compatibility reasons, or operating specialized equipment)

They need to come up with something better... trade your XP license and $20 for a copy of W7 or something. That would clear out the old stock of W7, for sure! It would be cheaper for MS in the long run, but to be honest, I don't think they need to be doing anything. Anyone who knows anything knows XP is dead... move on or take your chances.

Haha wow they sure are desperate. They did it to themselves though, if they wanted to stop supporting XP then they should have stuck with their original date. They should also make 7 easier to get, all you see everywhere is 8. Nobody wants that garbage.

Win8.1 is excellent OS and your statement is not valid on last part as well ,I mean Win7 came out eight years after XP was released and users had plenty of time to upgrade(over a decade),as usual some users try to blame Win8 but hey its only been available for a little while compared to XP and Vista/Win7.

Win9 out next year I wonder what XP users will think for their next excuse  .

You could not pay me to go back to XP.

My mother begged me for weeks, blowing up my phone, to put XP on her new (at the time, 2006) laptop that came with Vista. I refused and made her learn it, and she couldn't understand why so many people hate it.

She bought a new laptop last month with 8.1 and a touchscreen. She loves it. She said it was easy to use. This is coming from a woman who has a hard time installing apps on her Android phone and can't remember a password to save her life.

Personally I actually quite like W8. Looking forward to the 8.1 Update 1 next month. Also really wishing I had a touchscreen on my laptop too.

My old XP PC is using Linux Mint, very happy with it (especially zero cost being free upgrade)and trouble free, security concerns not an issue with Mint so not even for 100 quid :) .

That's the issue. Try doing REAL work on an OS that's designed for touch... heck try doing any real world on a touch interface even. Touch is nice for basic stuff and mostly for consumption but if you want to do any real work like coding, CAD, or pretty much anything productive, this whole movement of everything being touch is crap. Give me my keyboard, mouse, and multiple monitors and a GUI that is designed for it.

My fear is that Linux decides to follow the touch and/or GUI revamp crowd too. They did it with Ubuntu, but thankfully there are other flavors of Ubuntu and other distros that have a real proper GUI.

That's another myth IMHO,I keep saying this so will say it once more you can use mouse and keyboard just fine on Win8/8.1 ,a lot of users like myself don't have touch screen or want to use touch, personally I use my Win8/8.1 for everything including real work.

I do wish people will stop saying you need touch because you don't for Win8/8.1,come on guys it's not rocket science to use mouse and keyboard on Win8/8.1.

As to Linux it has more flexibility due to the many different distros out there and dare I say it Linux users are more adaptable then Windows users,Linux will never forget its bread and butter ie desktop users.

I hate all of these offers where you can give the company something in exchange for a discount on something. Things like getting money off a 3DS if you give them a regular DS, or something like that. You're always better off avoiding these deals. In the example situation, you're better off keeping the DS because of GBA compatibility. In this case, you're better off keeping the computer with Windows XP because of better compatibility with older programs and games.

No not at all......... It just shows how desperate they are to get people to A MORE INTRUSIVE OS where they have even more control!! (To be quite frank about it)
