>>with an optical mouse, surface is not important!!! As long as the surface is flat, it will be all the same. The only time a mousepad makes a difference is with ball mouses where they need to grip the mousepad well. An optical mouse will work on a wall for all it's worth

Why do you think this?
Although it does not grip the surface, certain patterns LOOK different to the mouse and work better. I had trouble with my mouse acting funney, especially if I was "twitch" shooting like in a rail gun match. I tried MANY different surfaces like the bare desk top, white paper, regular mouse pads, 3M Mouse pads, Everglide mouse pads, magazine covers, book covers, note books, and all of them in combination with an additional sheet of clear plastic. MOST of these combinations exibited wierd cursor movement if the mouse was moved really fast. That is why I am convinced you have to find the right surface. For me, an ALL BLACK
RatPadZ
worked the best.
