Microsoft website can not recognize Internet Explorer

I am using Windows XP home with service pack 2. After some long forgotton update now I can not connect Windows Update site with Internet Explorer 6. I get this message: Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.
To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.
To upgrade to the latest version of the browser, go to the Internet Explorer Downloads website.
Can anybody suggest any solution to this woe?

How could a platinum member could be such presumptious and rude to reply like that. I use only legitimate and licensed software. Earlier I had no problem in updating windows. It was only after some auto updater patch provided by PC mags this problem cropped up. I contacted Microsoft help service who could not help since my Windows XP is an OEM version preinstalled with Compaq machine. I think many people are having the same problem.

Post count does not equal authority or tact. You'll go far in life if you realize people with so called "authority" are typically just another peeon like the rest of us.
