registration was really annoying the day i had to install windows xp twice.

Easy.

Never register, but only activate when you've got it all up and running. You've got 14/30 days to Activate it, so you have that long to solve any problems.

Confused

How is registration gonna work with this one?

It's funny how everyone was so pissed about the XP registration when it first came out, refusing to upgrade, etc. Now everyone uses it.
I use 2K, have a free OEM copy.. paying for an OS is fine, but nothing over $100 for a slight upgrade.. we have 2K = NT 5.0 XP = 5.1 and Server 2003 = NT 5.2... I will not pay that kind of money for a .X give me NT 6 and I'll think about it

If that ever happens on any project I'll sh!t my pants 😉

I will not be transitioning to Longhorn, no matter how many features are added. It incorporates too much 'DRM' (I'll manage my own rights, thank you) and is looking to be excessively insecure (WinFS, Longhorn's NTFS replacement, is a combination of NTFS and an MS-SQL server - one of Microsoft's most insecure products on top of what is supposed to keep my data safe? NO!!!!)

Microsoft also has me extremely pissed over the delay of Service pack 2 for WinXP - there's NO fvcking reason that I should have to download half a gig of updates for every new machine when they could just be mature and release the damn package instead of releasing it a year late just so they can have more 'feature enhancements' in it. Service packs are supposed to fix bugs - not add features. That's just an added bonus, that, quite frankly, I don't care about.

If you go to the corporate site they have downloadable updates for admins. Download once and deploy.

How many machines we talking, how much time wasted? Perhaps your employer should get a better qualified worker, feel free to give him my number. 😉
