Hopefully it is not anyone that works on IE security!

1800 will go immediately.. the the rest of the next year and a half. Just trimming down I suppose since it is only 5% of it's workforce.

Cash flow is less, sales are down, some products have matured, etc.
Products/divisions that have been bought up over the past few years have been absorbed and some of the duplication will be removed.

Hopefully, R&D will not take a hit.

the local Microsoft office (fargo, nd) is laying off only a handful of people and continuing a big expansion they had going on there.
