Microsoft to Deliver 'Pre-Beta' of Windows 7 in Oct.

Microsoft will hand out a "pre-beta" build of Windows 7 at its Professional Developers Conference on Oct. 28, the company said.

The PDC will also include 22 sessions on Windows 7 and its related technologies, indicative that the software giant is shifting its focus to its next-generation operating system. There are no sessions explicitly categorized as designed for Windows Vista on the list of sesssions Microsoft has placed on the PDC site.

Microsoft did not explain what the "pre-beta" software to be handed out at PDC would include.

"Windows 7 is the next major version of the Windows client operating system," Denise Begley wrote in a blog post. "With Windows 7 at PDC2008 you will see advances across the full range of Windows?including the kernel, networking, hardware and devices, and user-interface. Learn more about opportunities to build on the platform's commitment to OS fundamentals, while also enabling you to enhance your existing applications and create new applications that use the new technologies and APIs in Windows 7."

Sessions include "Windows 7: Developing Multitouch Applications," "Windows 7: New Shell Experience APIs," "Windows 7: New APIs to Find, Visualize and Organize," and "Developing for Windows Surface".
