Microsoft Streets and Maps 04, anyone used it?

Thinking about picking it up at BestBuy for my reunion coming up. Its being held back home and I can't remember driving around so I want a good mapping program for all the places I'll be going. Anyone have expierance with this software?

I have it, if you have used Streets and Trips 2003 then it is pretty much the same.
I did ntice they had alot more streets named, in 2003 my road wasnt named at all, it was there though...in 2004 it is named correctly and it was extended last year and they have that extension in there as well.

Nice and easy to use, i havent tried the GPS feature yet with my Garmin Etrex Legend, but i hear it is much improved.

Cool, I don't have 2003 version... never used ones except mapquest.com. I've used it enough to not trust results. Another question, can I save trip directions to flat file or even html? I don't have a printer at the house, would need to print here at work.

Etrex legends can only Garmins own Mapsource maps I believe.

Mapquest is ok if you want general directions to a town. Then you would need to actually
zoom in some to find the grid to where it is you want to go according to your preferences.

MS' product is simular, but I like an online resource that I can use anywhere I can get an
internet connection rather than have to pack the resouce with me when I travel.

I ain't gonna rely on mapquest, had too many issues with it. If I save direction outputs to a printable file I'm gonna get it tomorrow.

I have a slightly older version of Streets and Trips - I assume they've just changed the name, or are they actually different programs? - that came with my Gateway laptop last year, and I love it. If I didn't already have this copy, which serves it's purpose well enough, I'd probably pick up the most new one.

Dipshit. How are you packing any more around with you if you have MS Streets and Maps on your HDD? Do those extra bits and bytes weigh you down?

Mapquest and Yahoo Maps have misled me far more often than the MS map software.

Again, how are you "packing" the resource with you in any way that would challenge your physical strength?

I am still not sure about the differences between Streets and Maps and MS MapPoint but with Map Point You can see maps as HTML Files
<-- still trying to figure out the differences also. I love Mappoint... 2004 is coming out.

Hey dipshit, maybe he meant that he would only need a network connection on any pc at any time to get mapquest and yahoo, whereas with MS software he would actually need his laptop with the software installed. Maybe you should think before you start calling people names

This is going to be a personal copy for me at the house. Going to print out directions prior to getting up there. I guess I can install the program at work then go from there but would much prefer if I can just use it here. It does talk about being able to email but that is with Outlook.... I use Eudora so Outlook is kinda out, guess I can set it up in a pinch.

True, but if you hook the GPS up to a laptop you can use it with Streets & Trips (it will work with any GPS that supports NMEA output - most of them do). Don't think you can actually load maps from Streets & Trips into the GPS...

One more bump for the night... think I read somewhere that you can maps/directions as a webpage... just want to verify this before I make the purchase.
