Looks like this is it. The Department of Justice hasn't hindered the software giant too much. Here's the Associated Press piece of news to appear in tomorrow's newspapers:

"SEATTLE ? Microsoft Corp. has finished work on the successor to the popular Windows 98 home computer operating system and will officially release the product on Sept. 14. The new software, called Windows Millennium Edition, was sent to computer makers on Monday, Microsoft said. It will be included on new computers purchased after the launch date, and consumers will be able to purchase it in stores as well."

I got to take a peek at it. It's kinda cool. One of our seasonal guys does BT for MS and he has it on his laptop. I believe it was a very recent version.

BTW, isn't it SOFTware? :) This is the General HARDware Forum, after all.

If the bugs are out(Stability is important at this stage with MS)this will be a very nice UPGRADE of win98SE.Alot of nice features, many taken from win2k and some new ones for connectivity and peripherals like digital camaras and palm devices.I'm looking forward to it's release to market.

The differences between 98SE and ME appear to be mostly cosmetic from my experience with it. I've had to test for compatibility with our software at work and it's pretty the same thing we've all been using for a while now.

Got the Final OEM version(4.90.3000) and it's running great. No errors at all. It's running everything I throw at, so far :)
In Q3A I got 12 more fps then I did with Win98SE, with the same settings.
Talked to a beta tester, who tests other progs, and he said most progs should run fine but some will need to be updated(patched) for ME. I only needed to get a new version of Intellipoint and Intellitype for my mouse and K/B to work as they're suppose to with the software. Everything else is running fine.

Almost forgot, I did a clean install.

Woo-hoo! Still the same (bad) old Win9x core! Gotta (hate) it! I sure do. I'll keep 2k for now and wait for Whistler to get to RC2, thanks.
