Wait a sec, all the comments in the article are made by a microsoft guy and it's all just speculation. I won't put too much weight in that.
Read the original blog post again. He's discussing a
Home Theater Mag article. Yeah, he's going to be biased but he isn't pulling it out of his arse.
Arghh! How annoying this topic is! An op that links to a blog that links to a blog that links to a blog!
Ok, so yeah, 1080p screens will deinterlace 1080i but so what? That doesn't mean that 1080p isn't any better than 1080i. Yes, the deinterlacing does close the quality gap a lot between the two but it doesn't eliminate it. And Ozymandias refers to Geoffrey Morrison to support his idea that 1080i doesn't matter but Morrison says that "The only time you would see a difference is if you have native 1080p/60 content, which at this point would only come from a PC and maybe the
PS3. 1080p/60 does have more information than 1080i/30, but unless you're a gamer you will probably never see native 1080p/60 content." Morrison's article was mostly about why 1080p doesn't matter for TV and DVD (which is correct) and it doesn't matter for hdvd & bluray either because movies are only shot at 24fps (also correct) but the only place it may matter is for games which is exactly the domain that Ozymandias is trying to say it won't matter in.
Now I do think Ozymandias is correct when he says there won't be many 1080p games because of multi-platform targeted and graphical power limitations but his usage of Ozymandias to back his opinion up is wrong and his blog in general is a lot of FUD from a corporate shill.
