Microsoft sometimes looks like a huge, greedy, unstopable beast that will swallow us all.

<< I never buy M$ software. I get it for free. >>

And you can justify this...how? Just because they make a lot of money doesn't give you the right to steal their product.

by the tone of the message it sounds like he's probably at a university where MS has an agreement with. You're pretty set if you do. I had to intall win2K for a friend still in college last week. All she had to do was goto the library, where she checked out a copy of it for free. Its basically just a burned corporate .iso with a nice college/MS label on it. You can buy also buy the CD for a minimal charge, $5, but many colleges just give them away.

Right, I knew that. I get mine for next to nothing, but it's still legal. I get the feeling that he wasn't getting it legally though.

and if you school does not have any relationship with MS, contact MS. you can start student organizations and stuff. they'll give you tons of free stuff, as long as you promote their technology at your school. though, this is rather time consuming. the best way is to get somebody else to start the org 😀

Oh yeah, trust me, we have the campus agreement. I couldn't get along without it. 🙂

GOOD LORD!!!!!*

Has the entire american society gone COMPLETELY FVCKING INSANE??? First the CBDTPA nearly gets passed, now M$ is going to proibit GPL'd software from working with its stolen protocols and the government is going to LET THEM?

Well, I suppose it doesn't matter. I will just continue my silent and insignificant boycott of everything MS claims as their own. I haven't run Windows since December, and in light of this revelation, I'm going to switch from SMB to CODA for my network file storage tomorrow.

To every web designer who uses frontpage or MS HTML in their web site, every office that only accepts MS Word files, every hardware manufacturer who refuses to allow drivers to be written for other OS's, every idiot HR guy who thinks an MCSE means anything, every video provider who only offers windows media:

:|:|:|DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL:|:|:|

* I'm not religious, but this was the best phrase I could think of

every video provider who only offers windows media

i think it is much more common for people to only offer real media, which is vastly inferior to windows media, or quicktime. damn real to hell!

Yeah, micorsoft sucks and the future is looking worse. But being a Mac user it doesn't bother me too much. If I wanted to I could stop using M$ products today. But office v.X is a good product (actually the first good M$ product that i have used!)

What is a Mac without Microsoft Office 😉? Corel WordPerfect used to fill in nicely, but the company can't keep itself afloat, and its products is inferior to Microsoft Office.

PURE

Consider StarOffice, KOffice, or any of the other vastly superior alternatives.

That's the way MS works. "Sure we will let other interoperate with our systems. Of course they have to pay us royalties and we will not allow our only real competitor to interoperate with our systems"

"United States Justice-system: Best justice money can buy!"
