well, I built a new computer recently: using amd3000+ 939 / Gigabyte K8NU-9 mobo / evga 6800gt / windows xp

I had updated everything from microsoft except service pack 2. Everything worked fine untill I installed service pack 2. After the installation, I reset the computer, but it doesnt go to windows and instead crashes prior. Afterboot up and checks, it goes into a blue screen and resets, but it does it so fast that I cant see the blue screen. Any ideas how to fix this?

REINSTALL!!! Good chance you had some Spyware or Drivers that didn't like SP2.

Have you tried booting into Safemode? There is also a manual way to uninstall SP2 from the recovery console. You can find the info on Microsofts website. I had a pc that had a peice of spyware on it and didn't like SP2 so I had to uninstall SP2 manually and then remove the Spyware and reinstall SP2.

hold shift, boot to safe mode, set error reporting to do at least a small memory dump, or tell it to not reset on errors (startup/recovery settings in the my computer advanced properties). then you'll be able to see the error code. google away with the code and see what comes up
