Microsoft Security Essentials vs/and/or AVG?

I've got both MSE and AVG (free version) on my system. AVG recognizes a certain file as containing a trogan BUT MSE says it's clean. (It's a file type that is common to get a false negative on)

Who to believe?

I was reading up on MSE and it says that you shouldn't have any other antimalware protection installed and in fact, MSE disables Defender.

Should I just have MSE for protection?

mse works fine for me, if i had a choice of which to trust it would be mse, both running cant be good.

Yeah, I think I'll take off that free version of AVG. I remember when I first installed it, it was giving me warnings about everything. Then it would try and get me to purchase the full version, LOL. That has settled down but I like Microsoft products, and MSE is also free.

you could always upload the suspicious file to a service like virustotal.com that scans the file with a bunch of different vendors

but yes, only run one AV at a time

I think MSE is the better choice. It has been recommended by many AV reviewers, and people who have used MSE. It performs great with good detection rates, but most of all it's free.

There are many performance benchmarks you can find on google. Here is one.

I have been using MSE since the beta and love it. Before that I had been using avira. I gave up on AVG a long time ago.

AVG used to be good, but not anymore.

MSE or Avira are the good free ones...
I agree with that. AVG gets sluggish at times, and sometimes don't detect/remove viruses.

I will make the switch to MSE once my NOD32 license expires.
