I disagree. I might have a firewall that lets listening apps listen, if I approve them. Maybe I accidentally allowed an app. Maybe I deliberately allowed an app. The point is, Windows Messenger is the problem, not the lack of a firewall. Having a firewall is still good of course, but in this case, the culprit is windows messenger

.
Actually that is not quite correct either. When you say Winodws Messenger most people will think you are talking
about MSN Messenger, the Instant Messaging client bundled with the OS.
But that is not what supports the pop up windows. Those are coming thru the Windows Messaging
Service
which is a different function of the OS altogether.
Here's some links to help disable the Messaging Service
And sterling, the only legit site for windows updates for the average user is currently at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com , and any future sites will most likely be connected to the microsoft.com
domain in a similar fashion.
www.windows-patch.
info? Isn't even close to sounding like a real microsoft site, any script kiddie
can set up a URL like that, and probably did to find easy systems to attack, or at least find gullible people to
target for SPAM.
