Microsoft Corp unveiled its first new logo in 25 years on Thursday as it looks to unify its branding ahead of a clutch of new product releases this year.

The world's largest software company is introducing a dash of color in its first logo redesign since 1987, using a new multi-colored square next to a plain rendering of its name, replacing its well-worn italic style logo.

shut your cryhole. Microsoft created jobs. and problems. that required new jobs to get created. they can do as they please.

Looks they're trying to make us think of the metro interface. Least that's the first thing I thought of.

It's not bad. Not like I was ever head over heels about their old logo either.

I'm good with it.

It's clean, professional, and looks very Microsoft. It would have been upsetting to see a pandering whimpish graphically over-embellished logo to appeal to today's flaky fanbois.

Looks like they're prepping people for the new Windows 8 interface.

I think its stupid for any well established and large company to go and screw up their brand recognition. Like Pepsi, UPS... JUST LEAVE THE LOGO ALONE.

Eh, UPS' is great, imo. Don't love Pepsi's.

But yeah, it's pretty clearly synced to metro. Hope it doesn't crash and burn!

its a logo. as long as it doesn't have osama bin laden wiping his ass with the American flag, while having intercourse with an apple pie, and standing triumphantly over the carcass of a dead pig I don't see a problem.

Agreed on the Windows 8 genes. It's not bad, but like someone else said I don't get jazzed up about logos. Some of them you see and immediately think: that is great. This certainly isn't one of those for me.

Better than IBM's shuttered logo, better than the facebook logo. Not as good as their old logo. Apple still has a better logo. Apple's rainbow apple logo beats the white one.

the squares don't look clean but that may be just compression artifacts.

otherwise looks good. the use of metro on desktop not withstanding, I like MS's new UI direction with clean minimalism, rather's apple's faux leather and chrome etc.

I don't see anything wrong with it. The change isn't drastic and retains familiar elements. The old logo looked very dated. Most successful branding updates are gradual and evolutionary.

Curious what you guys dislike about it.
