Looks like Windows phone 7 will hit the US in November. Finally released to OEM.

Although Im still not sold on WM7, looks like its finally released.

Microsoft has announced that Windows Phone 7 has hit the release to manufacturing milestone. The OS has been finalized and has been sent off to Microsoft's partners around the world, who in turn will put it on their hardware and networks in time for this holiday season. All that's left before release is manufacturer additions and testing. Prepare yourself for a Windows Phone 7 launch event; devices will hit Europe in October and the US in November.

There is still one more milestone to reach on the developer side of things: the final SDK is slated for release on September 16. In early October, the Marketplace will start accepting application submissions. This will include applications from the hardware companies and network operators; their software has to go through the Marketplace validation process just like applications will.

*Consumers yawn* :p

In all seriousness though, I am eager to see a solid third competitor to a market dominated by Android and iOS. I just haven't see anything from WP7 that's remotely compelling yet. Read an article not too long about about WebOS 2.0, but HP doesn't exactly have extensive experience in these markets, despite their claims to put WebOS in everything.

I think the OS itself will take time to fully flesh itself out, like Android and iOS did. However, it does have some cool stuff already - particularly its stellar integration with other Microsoft services. XBox Live gaming, full Zune support, the best Office support, etc.

This will interest me once I can play with the operating system on a properly functioning phone. The last windows mobile phone I had (HTC something or another) was a complete fail.

This will be hitting around the time I upgrade. I have a Zune and a couple of 360s so I guess I am the target market for this OS and will have to take a look. Sprint will hopefully have a well equipped device in late Nov/early Dec so I can compare it to the Epic/EVO/whatever the best Android Sprint phone is in that time frame.
