I did not see this posted.

Microsoft releases a hotfix for Vista regarding SLI use.

Here

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support (http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support)

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

Well Who wants to do that...

Here is a link for the hotfix.

Here

Anyone have a go with this yet?

This is one reason why I have not moved to Vista.
My 7950GX2 would not work.

I wonder if this will fix it?

Regardless of whether or not this hotfix is any good or not, good post and good looking out for the enthusiast community. :cookie:

I think this post deserves a sticky

Didn't BFG already post this in the earlier SLi/XFire hotfix thread?

As to your 7950GX2, I would do some Internet searches on that and confirm it. Also, consider whether you will be using the 32-bit or 64-bit Vista. They have different driver bugs, so just because someone says his/her 7950GX2 is working on one version does not mean the card will work on all versions.

Technically, the payment is for having an early version of the hotfix, which will be bundled into a service pack and presumably delivered to everyone for free. This is standard practice for certain types of fixes...dunno why.

It has never made sense to me that MIcrosoft does this, but yes, they will charge you.

They will only charge you IF they determine that the hotfix is not the solution for your issue. It typed in clear text there. Let me repeat what it says again.

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

That's really cool. If you call and get a support representative to tell you that the hotfix MAY fix your problem, and IF it actually fixes the problem, the normal support costs MAY be waived (in special cases). SuSE ought to set up a similar system, where they can charge you for contacting support for patches that ultimately do not fix the problem. Wait...here's a thought: why not make the patch available for public download so that people can try the patch without calling support line in the first place? What a novel idea!

/sarcasm

The patch may have not been fully tested across the board and if it was posted to the public it could cause more issues with people who don?t need it trying it out because ?it might fix my problem?.

I?ll say it is annoying but it is the smart business move.
