Microsoft racing wheel for 360

mugs

Lifer
Anyone have one of these? Is it great? Worth the price difference between it and the Logitech wheel? I've been playing Forza 2, and my biggest complaint is that I have a hard time making subtle adjustments with the analog stick. I figure a wheel with its much greater range of motion will fix that problem.

From the pictures I've seen there are a few things I haven't been able to figure out -
1. Where are the RB and LB buttons? Are they replaced by the paddle shifters on the wheel? I always do automatic transmission in Forza, so I don't know what buttons shift when you do manual... but with auto, the LB button lets you view your damage and I forget what RB does.

2. How do you look around? I don't see any equivalent to the right analog stick on there.

Edit:
Also, do Best Buy Reward Zone coupons work online? Anyone want to hook a brotha up? I don't feel like waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday for Amazon.com to ship it to me.

I dont have one, but the 1up Yours podcast talked about it a lot a few months back. They did not like it at all. The main problem was the wheel didn't turn far enough so once you hit as far as it went, to like, the left, you were kinda screwed

Ive read a few, not all, reviews on it, and I havent heard them have any major complaints about it as UpgradeFailure is describing.

I have one though. I also have Forza 2 also. Its great. I believe I do better in the game because of the wheel.

As for your questions:

1. Im not exactly sure which buttons they translate too, but I will tell you X (or one of the alphabetic buttons) allows you to view your damage. There is also the button to view your telemetry. I dont use these features, so I dont know too much about them, I usually just hit the button on accident.

2. I dont think there is a way to look around. Y allows you to look behind you, which is probably all you need.

Over all I love it. I never used manual because I just thought it was too difficult, but with the paddle shifters it makes it a whole lot easier and I am personally amazed of how much more control it give you over your car. I think the turning degree as UpgradeFailure mentioned is perfect. I got mine for $107 shipped, so I got a pretty good deal.

This is my first wheel, so take it for what its worth.

I would imagine that turning the wheel all the way in one direction would have the same effect as pushing the analog stick all the way in the same direction... I'd like to think that Microsoft would not screw that up 😀

Cabages - It'll be my first wheel too. Where'd you get it for $107?

I have the wheel and I love it. It's the only way to truly play. Not to mention it comes with the super fun PGR3 for all your arcade driving needs.

1. You shift with the paddle shifters as they are the LB and RB. LT and RT are the left and right pedals, respectively.

2. You can't look left and right with the wheel.

Got my wheel here.

Oooooh, that's a deal... but I have Amazon Prime, and I hate Buy.com... I could get it as early as Tuesday from Amazon if it ships from a nearby distribution center.

Walmart has it for $120, but they didn't have any at the Walmart near me. 🙁 So my options are $130 locally tomorrow, $120 Amazon Tues-Wed, or $106 Buy.com probably next week... I split the difference and went with Amazon. 🙂 I would have bit the bullet and bought it at Gamestop, but I'm behind in my contracting work so I have to punish myself (and discourage myself from playing video games 😱 )

I have one and my wheel is malfunctioning on me. Keeps disconnecting whenever you press a button that's on the wheel portion (i.e. the directional pad and the XBYA button). Getting into a race takes a couple minutes of "Controlled disconnected..." *Press XBOX button* "Controller connected..." *Press Button* *Disconnects*. Rinse and repeat...

I love the MS wheel. I got it back in December with PGR3 (horrible game with the wheel) but Forza 2 makes it shine. The control is very precise and force feedback is great. You can change the button mapping to make X and B look left and right and Y look behind you. I've completed arcade and career with it and am now ready to take my *cough* driving skills online with it. We'll see how that goes. 🙂
