Microsoft password tied to my hotmail and vice versa

Several months back, I think it was after an update of 8.1 , I had to add a password on boot-up that I never had to do before. Now every time I start the computer, I have to use my Hotmail password, which some how got linked to the boot-up password

I would just like to get rid of needing a password to boot up. I keep my email private but every time I chg the Hotmail password, it links immediately to the boot-up password which gets automatically changed every time I try to chg my Hotmail password. It's sort of a vicious cycle.

Does anyone understand this problem I have with a "Microsoft" password and how I can have my boot-up without a password and my Hotmail with one?

I used to be able to figure things like this out but this time I haven't a clue.

Thanks

There is an option in user admin to dissociate your computer account from your Microsoft account. Or you can run "control userpasswords2" and setup auto login. I do the latter.

Thanks. It was confusing leaving all three lines blank. An option saying "don't link" or some other phrase with a check box would have been better. But at least the annoyance is gone.

Thanks again
