Does anybody know where I can find a nice table that compares, WinXP Pro and Home to other mocrisoft OSs? I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Thanks.

Eh, they don't have anything good on their site anymore it seems. They used to have something of a comparison, now they just have videos comparing XP Pro to Win98 and Win95. Pretty much now you can presume that XP is better than Win9x in nearly every way. It's not totally compatible with very old software though, and even some newer software doesn't like XP if it was written for Win98. Software makers are ripping us off bigtime for "upgrades" that allow them to run on XP.

XP Pro and Win2k are pretty much the same OS, XP just has the new GUI and a few new tools. You can compare XP Home and Pro on MS's site. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp

Yes, I tried Microsoft site and tried google. Generally those are good places to start.

I'm looking for more lowel level stuff like CPU support, max memory, file system differences, etc. Not just that thinks look different and have a different version of IE.

Thanks though.

Hmmm... Unless I'm mistaken, the only supported CPU type is x86. As for max memory and file system differences, well these sound like the kinds of things that would have to be looked up on an individual basis.

Or just post a list and wait for answers.

I think Windows NT runs on Alpha platform also

Only up to SP4, Compaq decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

So I guess win 2k and XP should also run on it.

Win2K RC2 was the last one with an Alpha build, although I'm sure it's possible I doubt MS will release another OS build for Alpha.

NT 4.0 also runs on powerpc chips??? (see third link)

And MIPS, but only very specific hardware, you won't be installing NT4 on a Mac.

Windows server 2003 runs on Itanium (IA 64)

And soon to be running on x86-64.

The best part is all the ports prior to the Win2k3 port to IA64 have been 32-bit, so getting an Alpha and running NT on it was a big waste IMHO.
