call microsoft msdn subscription center, $979 a year for universal Academic. You will have to provide the school, student id, and a school email address.

Several years ago I bought the academic version of MS visual j++ (before the whole MS/SUN debacle) and when i registered my product they promised to send me 1 "issue" of msdn. Instead i was sent whole years subscription. Same thing happned to a friend of mine with (academic) visual c++. Im not sure if they still do this, but its a good way to get several thousand dollars in software and resources for about $40. Of course J++ is useless now but perhaps it could be done with one of the other individual visual packages.
