BTW how did it die? Even though they say optical mouse could be used WITHOUT a mousepad, i would and recommend using one only because it would do g00d for the mouse and not wear it off that quickly
Im just guessing...Im takin a wild guess that u used it w/o a mousepad and that could be why *though that would be dumb of MS sayin that it could be used without a mousepad cause it would kill the mouse so quickly*
The dumbest way to break it IMHO is just to keep throwing it against the table which is the best way 2 kill it BTW =P ;);):D

No I used it with a mousepad. I had it plugged into the PS2 plugin but all of a sudden my computer started locking up and the mouse was acting weird. So I tried it in the USB and it did the same thing. I plugged another mouse in and I haven't had a problem. I also plugged it in to another computer and it locked it up too.

Microsoft Hardware has an incredible return policy.

I have an Intellimouse Pro crap out on me after 1.5 years. I called them up, and they sent me out a brand new one free of charge, overnight, and didn't even want the old one back.

If you are going to buy a mouse I would strongly recommend Logitech over Microsoft. I have a Logitech Trackman+ that had the cable ripped out of the side of it and after some major sergery has worked fine for over 3 years now!!!!! I love it and wouldnt ever use anything else.

BTW its Microsoft, what do you expect?

MS told me to go to Costco to return it. I didn' t have the receipt or box. Costco on the phone said sure will take it back if we can find it in our database. So I asked them is that via the serial # of the intellimouse optical? No via the paperwork. I told them I didn't have the paperwork.
So I call back MS with this info and the guy says ok just call this Warranty hotline....holy cow....talk about anal search. I gave the lady my P/N and Product ID # and still she wasn't satisfied. I told her it was at home and I was at work but looking at an exact same model as the one at home. She wanted another X0 # something. There simply wasn't one. Then she said call us back when your at home. I fought then she wanted the name of who I spoke two in tech support at MS. I didn't know and spoke to 4 different people. So she reluctantly 'made an exception' this time and said she'll ship out my mouse. After half an hour or more on the phone phew...not nearly as easy as I envisioned but my current mouse at home acts up all the time and is annoying as heck.. It's going in the dumpster.

Same thing happened to mine with the PS2 and USB connections. M$ customer support sent me a new replacement including a $5 rebate coupon. No sweat, no hassle!

Jesus people - I gotta say this is really sad. I posted asking for the Microsoft return # - then found this thread & thought awesome, somebodies gotta have told him the # to call already but instead 3 people say "Microsoft returns was wicked, blah blah" & can't be bothered to provide the Phone #. It's not like it's in large text on the main Microsoft website or anything.

I agrea I found this "For information about replacement manuals, disks, drivers and service packs, product orders, policies related to copying software on additional computers, licensing, and product registration, Microsoft Customer Service is available all day, every day, to answer your question at (800) 426-9400." But if someone doesn't give me some other number pretty soon I think I will just try this number.

Microsoft has one of the best hardware return policies in the business. I don't buy that costcos story for one second. I've called and had 3 optical mice replaced. All they do is have you read off the #, ask you your problems, tell you to feed it to the cat (twice they told me that..lol) and give you an RMA number and a new 800 number to call. You call that number, give them the RMA, and they overnight you the new mouse. It's as simple as that! They never ask for a recipt, never where you pruchased. The only question they asked is "how long have you had your mouse" which ive always said "6 months" and thats the end of that.

I read this review *forgot where sorry* This person did this review in March and he uses his MS Intellimouse Explorer 24/7...6 Months l8r, it died out on him
My conclusion? THe mouse is good but it gets worn and dies 2 soon...yet MS has a really g00d return policy but still would u be happy to return your mouse EVERY 6 MONTHS?
But still it's a g00d mouse, Now let's hope that MS can make it last 4 a longer time

What is the 800 number to call? I have 2 dead MS Intellimouse Explorers sitting right in front of me that I need to return. The cable where it goes into the mouse has a bad connection, if you move the wire, the mouse stops and the light goes out, move it a little more and it comes back to life. 2 mice having the exact same problem.

This is the right number if you want to get a replacement for the mouse.

425 4542030
that is the customer care and you tell them your story. They will give you the case number

after that usually they will transfer you to the RMA dept. but the RMA dept phone is 425 6357040

I just called them yesterday and they replaced my Trackball.

Does anybody know exactly how long the warrantly last? I called yesterday and they said it's until Dec 16 so about 3 months..... so can somebody confirm me? Thanks
