Hey guys,

I'm thinking about buying the microsoft mn-700 router, which is a wireless G router. Does anyone have any experience with these? They seem to be going for incredibly cheap, and for some reason this makes me worried.

If anyone has any horor stories associated with this or any other microsoft router please kindly post your experiences!

Thanks in advance.

I tried one and it was ok but very basic in configuration. Very little firewall control. I returned it however because I couldn't get WPA encryption working with it.

The MN-700 does WPA just fine. Unfortunately, the configuration utility that you install on your computers does not allow you to configure it. You need to configure your clients through the normal Wireless configuration on the network card properties. Also make sure that you have the WPA patch installed on your machine: Q815485

I have this router... Its not bad and It does alot of stuff for you. I did both worlds, with configuring the hell out of a router to accept connections from specific ports and this one that does most of that for you. The signal strength is pretty good (supposedly around 200 feet max i.e. 66yards, pretty damn far, shorter in doors of course) and installation is a breeze. I was up and running in about 15min. All my games work fine (CS, Raven SHield), Norton AV has no problem with it. There were a lot of bad comments on CNET about this one but most of them were directed at an old issue that was fixed with a firmware update. I might still get a D-Link AirPlus 2.4GHz Xtreme G Wireless Router and return this one, I donno, but its hasnt really given me a reason to return it, and its compatible with xbox(obviously), its a tough decision... Relatedly ill be keeping the microsoft wireless PCI card (mn-730) its uber fast....

Don't think that helped you much...heh
