People on this forum who criticize the iPod do not understand that we AT readers are not representative of the "average" consumer, who is much more comfortable with an ipod + itunes simply because "it just works". They don't care about multi-format compatibility or cramming more features into the device. If you need a voice memo recorder, there is an add-on available for the iPod.

I'm sure there are cheaper players but better from the user interface? I don't know. It's such a breeze to sync it with iTunes. Hook it up, and it automatically updates the songs on the iPod and also vice-versa. Just great.

same with my creative... it auto synchs with my hard drive every time i plug it in
checks for MP3 changes and autouploads the new files
40g for 179 =P

I used iTunes before I've even had an iPod so it was a no-brainer for me to go with an iPod 🙂

Then why all the horror stories about having everything on ipods deleted for trying to copy music off of it?
 
you fail to realize that in the portable music player market, having a great deal of storage is no where near as important as the style/appearance of the device. after all, even the smallest storage players available can still hold quite a bit of music and keep someone entertained for hours. its apple's design/style that keeps the ipod at the top. everything else is pretty much the same for all the other players.

Are you addressing me? I'm well aware of how stupid the average person is and that this is to blame for the ipod's popularity. At any rate, I'm not surprised that the people responsible for the *cough* secure, stable OS *cough* known as Windows are ipod afficionados...

Hey, you have to admit that WinXP SP2 comes a LOT closer to that ideal than, say, WinME.

I don't like the ipod, but only because it's trendy and I would never spend that much money on an MP3 player (meaning I don't own any MP3 player🙁). But they really aren't THAT overpriced compared to other players, and they work pretty well. I don't know why people always go on about the interface though...it isn't THAT much better than the competition.

Still, if I was going to buy an Apple product in the near future, it would probably be an ipod or one of their laptops. Not a big fan of their desktops.

So many people seem threatened by ipods. I have an ipod and i like it, why do so many people have to try to convert you from whatever player you have? You guys sound like the religious/antireligious nutjobs in P&N.

microsoft woulda dominated if they went for mp3 standard mp3 players. but well...they got all the copy protection and the windows media bs no one wants to use.
anyways my civic gets better mileage then bmw costing twice as much. silly bmw'ers. buncha tools i say.
