i rememeber ms used to replace broken mice by asking yuor serial #. Can i get a link or # for that. My usb optical mouse just keeps pausing over and over.
 
I think that what you are reffering to was a replacement of certain line of mice that was found to be defective.

Otherwise take a look at the mouse papers, their should be there the Warranty terms and a number to call.

If the mouse is Not a regular retail mouse you have to talk to whoever gave (sold) it to you.

Microsoft has usually 90 days warranty policy. If it past 90 days, support would probably cost you more than new mouse.

its a 3 yr old mouse and they are replacing it for free , thanks. i finally found it. Microsoft has the BEST policy on its mice. THANKS MS!
