Try as they might, Apple and MS can't hold a candle to Creative in terms of features-to-price ratio.

Yet they still sell less audio players than Sandisk and Apple...

True. Which only proves the point that an average consumer is an uneducated sheep. Keeping up with the Jones' is the way of life.

I'm sorry, as much as you Creative fanboyz like to brag about Creative, I think their mp3 players sucks. I'd buy an iriver, sandisk, samsung, ipod or any other player before I get a vision m or whatever else they sell. Their products always malfunction. Every single person who I know that has a Creatie player always bitches and complain about how many times they had to return it. And let's not forget how ugly their products are. i've been buying iriver ever since the days they used to manufacture for rio and i never had a problem with them, no matter how many times I dropped them. Maybe the reason why people don't buy Creative is because they don't sell "quality" products.

To be honest, I could care less what "friends" have to say about products simply because I like to form my own opinions. Having owned MANY MP3 players over the years, beginning with the original Rio PMP300 and including iPoops and iRivers, Creative beats them hands down in terms of sound quality and value for the money. As for the looks, it's subjective, and to me Vision :M looks just fine, not that I'd ever be stupid enough to buy a piece of hardware based on how it looks.

It's all about the price at this point, there are no features there that are must-have for most users. Wi-fi is nice and a 3" screen is nice, but neither are going to make anyone run right out and buy one. Since Apple dropped the price on the 30GB iPod M$ better be able to beat that price or this is going to be just another competitor in an overcrowded market.

Now if M$ REALLY wants to take a big chunk of the iPod market, they need to leverage their huge sums of cash and make the brave decision that they don't need to make a dime on these things right away. Sell the Zune at a break even or small profit point of like $149 and watch the stampede to the cash registers.

So I want something that looks kind of nice and does what I want. The new iPods do that, but their horribly overpriced. DRM I can live with, I don't have any DRM'ed music, I rip all of my CD's myself. I only hope it will play XviD, DivX, H.264 etc. etc., I wanna see my family vacation videos encoded in H.264. :p

No kidding. Who wants to lug around a suitcase full of CDs when you can slip your entire music collection into your pocket with a portable mp3 player?

I'm happy they have the brown player. Nobody will buy it, then I will snatch it up at half price off the clearance rack. :D

The people complaining about "only 30 GB" crack me up. Really, what percentage of people are gonna need more than that?

I'd buy it just to spite the apple crowd though.

Remember, the Zune isn't just an audio player. It's also a video player with a much higher resolution screen than the 5G iPod and has the ability to playback high-rez content.

It's the same resolution as the 5g ipod.

also, to the person who said that the iPods are terribly over priced - how so? $249 seems rather fair and competitive in the market.

Me? I'm waiting for iRiver to release a HD based version of their clix. The problem is that they're going to have a hard time being price competitive.

Just counted, I owned 4 Creative players prior and not one broke down, ever. Must be your "friends".

Or the iPod was a superior product which better met their needs.

Nah, that argument has been made for a couple years now. iPods continue to dominate the market, and for good reason. Keep in mind the hardware itself is only half of the equation. iTunes completes the package, and no other competitor has a plug-and-go setup that can compete even remotely with iPod+iTunes.

Zune ... meh. The only thing I "like" is the WiFi. Now I wonder how long until we start hearing of the first BSOD's popping up :D :p

You're joking right? :p

IMHO, the problem with ALL the iPod "killers" and competitors is just that. They try to cram way too many features in and end up with a mess. Just look at the UI and navigation on these other units. THEY SUCK. Nothing comes close to the iPod's click wheel.

Now that Apple has lowered the 30GB to a paltry $249, the heat is turned up even higher.

Depending on the price and whether or not they support FLAC, I might consider buying it.

You're joking, right? Apple just forked over $10mil to Creative for UI patent infringement. My guess is that you never owned a Creative player.

Superior? In what terms?

By more precisely fitting that consumer's requirements.

this wont be replacing my toshiba gigabeat anytime soon... (although they are pretty close being toshiba is making the zune players)

and if the ui is anything like pmc it will be much better experince than an ipod. PMC is by far the best portable interface Ive ever used.
