Except, Windows 8 is technically superior in all ways than Windows 7, and Vista, and XP, and 98, and 95, and 3.1...

The fact that you dislike the UI doesn't mean it isn't right.

LMAO that is awesome! Too funny.

XP is kinda like the walking dead though. There is not really anywhere to escape to (as far as Windows goes). You can go to Windows 7, but it's a matter of time till they decide to stop supporting that too.

Holy crap are they seriously at IE 11 now? I'd hate to be a web developer right now. Too many versions to support. 6,7,8,9,10,11? Wow. I guess it's probably safe to drop support for 6 now days though.

As far as I'm concerned I wont consider IE as a modern browser until they actually follow the W3C standards like every other browser.

Actually, 8+ only now for the public-facing portion of sites I think; I do back-end though, so it could be 9+ now

All ways except UI. And when that is the central feature of the program, that's a problem.

No one made these sorts of excuses when Corel ruined WordPerfect.

I'm a web developer, and yes, it's a headache. We no longer support IE6 or 7, but have to provide support for 8 (highest version on XP) and 9 (highest version on Vista). It's annoying.

I will say though, life is actually MUCH easier these days than when IE6 was still king and Firefox, IE7, and Chrome/Safari were gaining ground. IE6 was an abomination in terms of how it rendered websites compared to the competitors.

Not only are they not going to comply with web standards they are declaring their way of rendering pages the de facto standard. They will deprecate the legacy rendering mode in the next iteration of IE and say to web developers to catch up or be left behind. Ballsy move but I have to deal with the aftermath of IE11 not even rendering right for payroll software for a billion dollar corporation.
