Microsoft Laser USB 2.0 Mouse loses traction - becomes sluggish - not dirty laser

I have a black Microsoft USB 2.0 optical mouse with laser tracking. It seems just recently the mouse, as evidenced by the mouse pointer on screen, has become sluggish in it's movements. Where I used to barely move the mouse across the mouse pad and got instant visual feedback, I am having to pick the mouse up multiple times and re-position it because the pointer only moves a short distance for long sweeps across the mouse pad. It's not a dirty optical lense because if I unplug the mouse from it's USB port and plug it back in, the smooth instantaneously feedback from the mouse comes back.

Does anybody else have this problem? I don't think it's a dirty optical lense because of the way it re-news itself after re-connecting but I guess I could be wrong.

**EDIT** Problem solved. I went to MSIs website, downloaded "Live Update 5", installed it. It turns out I had never installed the original drivers for my motherboard as the original installation of Windows 7 went pretty smoothly. So I never realized I didn't have all the drivers I needed installed. But the odd thing is that I installed Windows 7 over a month ago and everything has worked up until lately. Anyway, problem solved. Thanks for reading peeps. You can all go back to sleep now.
