The war has already been won, & MS wasn't even there to lose :p

Good to see others out now though.

Translation from google

"At the beginning of of Septembers will present some new input devices, which already arrive then starting from in the middle of Septembers in Europe to Microsoft. But so long we do not want to wait and present you the new laser series already in advance. Microsoft will call it revolutionary and will underline the statement that the presented mice are further at least two generations, as all dagewesene. Owing to used laser technology, the new input devices will work now with an accuracy of 1000 dpi and a scanning of 6000 fps. This is to convert all finer movements more purposefully and to the player a higher measure of reactivity grant. The higher achievement does not rely thereby by any means on a higher current consumption, because than Wireless laser Mouse 6000 is to support the product also battery running times of over 6 months. The mouse Design of the Wireless laser Mouse 6000 is based as far as possible in the preceding model rows. The basis was however increased, in order to ensure more stability (and that although the new technology can deal with unevenness of the soil underground better). Very modern the new mouse overhead panel works, since the left and the right mouse button consist now of a casting. Differently the Notebook variant. Used also you a flowing Design, be based however nevertheless more on the basic form of a classical Beidhaender mouse and is also clearly more spartanischer equipped (none left/right Scroll and only one auxiliary key). Similarly spartanisch also Mouse 6000 shows up the cord-bound lasers. It functioned as relatively favorable entrance into the laser technology and is to address particularly (relative) the economical Gamer. Quite immodestly Microsoft shows up during the price structuring of the new products. Who would like to call a controlling of the newest generation its own, must reach for this also deeply into the bag."

What is the actual technological advantage of using a laser instead of an LED in an optical mouse?

To me, it seems like flat panel speakers.. what's the point besides the cool factor.

I was about to say the same thing. I haven't seen anything that says a laser mouse is significantly better than a good optical.

Can you blind people with the new mouse?

 i hope so, then it contravenes the intnl ban on laser weapons ;)

Unfortantly the other laser, the mx1000, light in not anywhere close to the brightness of the optical ones I have used and the light goes off the second you pick it up so I would assume no. :(

This is why you bring a 2nd mouse just to blind people. :D

I don't think sensitivity has much more to improve really. It's all about ergonomics for me personally.

The laser one is alot more accurate then a optical one.

When I used my mx700 on my desk that has wood grain it would skip a bit but with the laser one I have yet had it to skip.

Plus when people ask what mouse you have you can do the finger quotes and reply: I have a "laser". :p

I don't have to. I let the industry decide. You don't often see flat panel speakers in audiophile magazines. Though, you can try and tell me the flat panel speakers you bought sound the bomb.

hope its not as heavy as my mx1000

My main problem with my mx1000 is it seems to light compared to my old mx700 but it was free so I can't complain. :p

But yea, logitech owns them all. :p

Logitech mice and keyboards suck. They feel like crap.

I second this. Their material quality has gone down. Cant speak for the Mx1000 though.

I'm still using my stellar MX700. I've been debating whether or not to get an MX1000 though. The MX700 is over two years old.
