Well, I don't it's a terrible terrible deal for someone just buying a new Xbox360. You can get the HDMI and larger HDD for a better "deal" than getting the HDD seperately with a premium system...however they ought to have lowered the overall price points. They should have replaced Premium with Elite, and lowered both Premium and Core.

Without the 65nm CPU, I don't feel regretful at all of our premium purchase last November. I like the white color, and am waiting out for a clear winner of the HD wars, I can get a VGA cable if I care about upscaling regular DVDs to 1080i, etc, etc. I wish the HDD add on were cheaper...but I'm no where near filling up my 20GB as is anyway.

Well here's more info on the 120 GB HDD...

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/new-x...gb-hdd-comes-with-a-lot-of-conditions/

You cannot put the data from two or more 20 GB hard disks onto one 120 GB hard disk. If you attempt to move multiple drives, only the last one you move will be stored.

You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible.

Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted.

Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over.

Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk.

So all of the 20 GB hard drives will now be worthless? such BS. They won't allow us to use our OWN external storage devices, why can't we use the one that came with our systems?

<--- fails to see how it makes the 20gb drive worthless.

anyways, not like I care. I won't buy the 120 GB drive anyways. :)

And don't tell me that everyone is going to have Wireless-N devices exclusively in their house. Just like with the switch from 802.11b to 802.11g, there will be a while before all of your household devices are fully shifted over to 802.11n (no one is going to upgrade their wireless printer "just" b/c 802.11n is coming out).

It's going to be a while until N is ratified.

Plus anybody can pick up a wireless bridge for cheap. You don't have to have an integrated adapater.

I'm keeping mine, i have no reason to upgraded to a 120Gb drive.

And if you mean from the perspective of someone who upgrades from a 20 to a 120, you have a few options.

1. sell it
2. keep it incase your 120gb one messes up.

I really don't see what you expected to see with the 20gb one after you upgrade to a 120gb drive. It's not like the 360 has 2 HDD slots.

How many people out there have two drives?

You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible.

Why would you try to transfer from the 120 to the 20?

Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted.

Meh. Not a problem if you do the transfer before you start messing around with the 120 (which you should do anyways).

Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over.

So? Goes back to you not needing the 20GB after you purchase a 20GB.

Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk.

How many people are going to be keeping the 20GB HDD around afterwards?

Big whoop. Comments in bold.

So much for appreciating the early adopters, eh?

Early adopters always get screwed. ALWAYS. Ask us G80 users running Vista.

This is pathetic by Microsoft. They're actually making a PROFIT by simply selling the system because they've gotten costs down so much (pretty much unheard of this early in a console's life cycle) and instead of taking the smart route and beating Sony on price, they make a retarded version of the PS3 that costs a whole 20 dollars less.

Makes no sense to me. The people who will get the most use out of a 120 gig HDD are the people who use their 360 as part of a media center. Those are the people who're going to want HD-DVD playback. When I owned a 360 I never came close to filling up the wussy 20 gig hard drive, despite my best efforts.

Look up Nintendo's history with consoles.

Point taken. Sega, Sony, and Microsoft however, have not had as much success. I'm pretty sure the Xbox didn't start making a profit per console sold until last year.

Are you actually saying that they should go back to losing money on each console sold just so they can not change the fact that they're beating the PS3 in sales? Why is everyone here so against companies making a profit?

I'm not against companies making a profit. If you knew anything about the videogame industry, you'd realize most console makers sell the system at a loss and make up the difference on games. With 360 games costing more than their PC counterparts, downloadable content, and X-Box Live subscriptions, Microsoft could sell the 360 for less money and still turn a profit without much trouble.

I'm not saying it's "wrong" to sell the 360 for the same price despite manufacturing costs going down, I'm saying it's stupid business-wise to do so when they could lower the prices and eat into Sony's marketshare. Right now the 360 Elite doesn't seem to make much sense to buy when you consider Sony's alternatives.

Wasn't there supposed to be another big announcement today? Not many hours left in the day for us here on the east coast.

Also, for the price it really should come w built in wireless. Nintendo managed to include it in the $250 price tag of the Wii...I don't give a damn if it's the 802.11a that's driving it up. Make it G/B or G only and if you need A either get a new friggin router or some aftermarket will support it.

They're already eating into Sony's market share. I don't see reducing the price $100 making that big of a difference and I'm sure they agree. At this point it's better for them to continue making money on both the console and the extras and then hit with a massive price reduction at the same time Sony does. They can go back to losing money on the console for a while and still remain profitable from a hardware perspective over the long term and continue beating Sony on price. If I worked for Microsoft I'd be doing the exact same thing.

You never know. Microsoft was actually condoning this back when they were denying reports of a larger HDD:

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4876

Condoning and reality of how many people actually have two HDDs for one 360 is two different things. I'm betting that the numbers are miniscule.

If they sacrificed profit today, they could essentially crush Sony right now and it would probably result in greater long term profits.

If the Elite was $400, you throw in the HD DVD drive to get $600. For the same price as the 60gb PS3, you have a system with a vastly superior game library, better online play, larger hard drive, and some great features around the corner (like IPTV). Not only would this dissuade people from buying the PS3, but it would result in even less exclusives for the PS3. Sony would be pretty much dead in this generation of the console wars.

Instead, they choose to price themselves right along the PS3, where to people considering a system in this price range, the PS3 looks like a better deal. Home is coming out in the fall, and in the mean time the PS3's library is greatly expanding. It's just a dumb move on MS's part.

To add to that, BR is pulling away right now over HD DVD, and keeping the PS3 competitive is only going to help. There's a reason why BR made such great leaps in terms of market penetration and disc sales once the PS3 was released.

Not when you take the PS2 into account. Look at the numbers. People are still buying a virtually dead console because it's cheap. That's how important price is to consumers right now. Making the 360 cheaper = more sales.

fixed.

the way 360 units are selling there isn't much of a point to doing a price drop right now. if sales were slowing down they might do it, but they're not. they outsold the PS3 by 100,000 units last month.

price has always been important to consumers. that and keeping a console around that will play your extensive game library. and it's not really dead seeing as how FF12 and GoW2 just came out. it'd be like if super mario 3 and dragon warrior 3 came out for the NES at the same time the SNES came out, and the SNES didn't have super mario world and FF2/4.

Sony's sales numbers ARE NOT STRICTLY DEFINED BY THE PS3. Guess which console outsold BOTH the 360 and PS3? People are buying the PS2 because it is cheaper. You need to take a broader view if you want to argue your point well.
