I see this all the time:

By now, Chertoff's people must be thoroughly frustrated that Microsoft still turns out poorly designed products.

....

What did you expect him to say? That it's Microsoft's fault? That would be too hot to handle. Gates and the rest of the brass stick closely to the script but clearly know that Microsoft can't keep turning out finished products that are as porous as Swiss cheese.

Here is an interesting list of quotes:

What do you say? In what ways has microsoft been absolutely horrible? What ways do they smoke the competition?

Well the first article is stupid, since Windows isn't a bridge or an aeroplane, so they can't really be compared.
And I'm sure I could find a load of quotes speaking negatively about anything.

Yes, MS has software issues, but part of the issue is people actively seeking flaws and exploits. You don't see that on bridges and planes, people use bombs instead.

I agree. Anything can be better. MS products arent perfect, but they arent crappy, either. It's about opinion and preference. But I love how people in these articles state opinion as fact.

XP is a 6 year old operating system. It was designed and built during a time when 1) broadband internet connections were not common, so the spread of viruses/worms/spyware was much more difficult and 2) security was not a major concern of the general computer user. Since then, obviously, times have changed. Most computer users have cable or DSL and many more people are aware of security issues these days.

Microsoft took the time to basically rewrite and resecure the core of the operating system and release it for free with SP2. Beyond that, they have been diligent in evaluating security flaws that are discovered and providing fixes at regular intervals. The DHS Secretary should not HAVE to tell people to keep their machines up-to-date because most people should be doing it anyway. Microsoft's made it exceedingly simple to keep your machine fully up-to-date.

There's been a big focus on security features with the release of Vista. Hopefully they will live up to the hype.

Microsoft is not a product. It is a company. Generalizations are almost always false.

Well i can't see anything going right days as people call themselves a techs or geek just because they have these supper uber jobs. Like freaking hell :( DLTV , Buzzoutlound and TWIT is loaded with idiots that don't really know what the hell they are talking about and they are listened by millions of people. Like for instant, Twit get Dr. Jerry E. Pournelle to come on and this guy knows his stuff and he was extremely knowledgeable. It was like him vs the rest and he was making the most compelling arguments not :( like Stupid John Dvorka who was recommending SLI for mutli-monitors when SLI only supports one monitor or some goon telling people to buy SLI so that they can run more windows on screen without lag.

Hackers are learning very quickly that it is much easier to go after vulnerabilities in third party products rather than Windows, which is under a microscrope, and patched regularly.

You might find this article enlightening: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/compu...ity/hacking/2006-08-02-black-hat_x.htm

Notice the chart at the bottom. Since January 2005, Apple has released more security updates than Microsoft. And Mozilla has released almost as many security updates as all of the updates for Windows, IE and Office combined.

I bet if Microsoft had a self updating system without notification like firefox and Apple have , then Microsoft would get sued.
