Got the wired one today. It is absolutely horrific for games.

The fact that the notches arent there would seem to be a problem that you could get used to. But games now register even the slightest movement of the wheel, and so what would usually be the distance between clicks now circles you through all your weapons about 5 times, because it registers so many notches. Which makes it officially useless.

Scrolls much nicer in windows though.

Ouch that definately has to suck. I think I wanna give this mouse a try though.

I really wanna give it a chance, but Ive been trying to figure out a way to get it to work in games better, but as of now, the wheel is unusable. Not to mention it takes quite a bit more force to click the middle button.

And the tilt wheel is absoultely, utterly useless, even in windows. For one, it doesnt work in opera, and for two, it scrolls soooo slow even on the highest setting, as to be entirely worthless.

It makes scrolling through pages smooth instead of jumpy. Which is rather pleasant I must admit, but I cant use the mouse. The middle click also has a lag for some reason, I had to click it extra hard for it to register.

So...who wants to buy a mouse?

I just got mine last night and plugged it into my laptop here at work. The cursor lags quite a bit. I'm using the PS/2 connection and I haven't installed the software yet. Is it really neccessary? I'm at work, so it's not like I need this for gaming, I just want the forward/backward buttons, the scroll wheel (not the tilt function), and the left- and right-click buttons to work. That's it. I usually don't have to install a driver for that.

Any advice?

Edit: BTW, the scroll wheel IS awesome. It's so smooth. Really pleasing to use. However, I have to agree that the wheel takes MUCH more force to click than I'd like. And for a wheel that doesn't click, that's a problem.

Edit 2: Also, MS is just calling it the Intellimouse Explorer on their site, not 4.0 just in case you're searching for it.

I was set to buy this mouse on sight, now I don't know what to do.

If it really takes allot of pressure for the scroll-click then that bothers me, as I use it ALL the time as a "close-window" hotkey.

However the smooth scrolling sounds really nice. And in general I've had this mouse for over a year and I just want something new. But with all that said it seems the IE 3.0 may still be the best out there.

I wish Microsoft had improved upon EVERYTHING, so that everything was just as good, if not better than the IE 3.0, and had not taken some steps back as it appears they have done.

I used it for the same, and the pressure was enough of a bother than I didnt want to use it.

Hell, Im still using the first optical mouse MS ever made, the tear shaped microsoft mouse with intellieye. Cant stand the new ones.

Just thought I'd add my review since I started this thread.

I LOVE THIS MOUSE!!

It is awesome for games, the accuracy is great. I personally love the smooth scroll wheel and the ergonomics are great as well!

All in all i'd give the mouse a 9/10. I'll leave the other point for future improvements! :)

Interesting.

How was the service from that yahoo store?

Does it come in the retail box?

Is it worth the difference from the IE 3.0?

The Yahoo store was just fine. Good e-mail communication for order placement and shipping. It did not come in a retail box, just packaged in bubble wrap. I like the 4.0 version MUCH better than the 3.0 version. Accuracy is better and the mouse fits my hand much better and more comforatably.

How are you guys that play FPS games getting along with the wheel. I found that since there are no distince clicks I can't advance to the next weapon using the wheel accurately enough.

I was thinking about getting this mouse to replace my MX700, but if the tilting wheel can't be binded in games (specifially leaning) and the scroll wheel doesn't change weapons right, why the hell would I buy?! Guess I'll take the MX510.

I've been using the Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 w/ Intellitype 5.0 for several days now. So far the only pitfall I've noticed in games is the scroll wheel changes weapons, however it is not very accurate so you end up moving the wheel a lot to choose the desired weapon. With the IE 3.0a, selecting weapons with the wheel was never a task. If you are dead set on having the scroll wheel for games this is not the mouse I'd recommend.

On the plus side, scrolling webpages is smoother and faster, plus the ergonomics of the IE 4.0 are a big plus for my hand.
