Now that its been essentially end-of-lifed prematurely, what can people who already bought them do about it? What are you guys going to do?

just keep it and ride out the hddvd discount fallout? or sell your hddvd player while its still worth something?

i wonder if some lawyer types will try and sue microsoft over it, or if you can get a refund or something. the whole situation kind of sucks.

I'd hope, although not expect, Microsoft would offer a trade in program for them... possibly to trade it in for a BluRay drive at a discount or something.

$50 is pretty expensive for a paper weight.

I don't see where anyone would have cause to sue though. I've never heard of anyone getting money back because a product failed on the market.

I don't know what I'm going to do with mine, but its purchase isn't really a huge regret for me. I got a heck of a deal and broke even after I sold the free extras on eBay. Right now I guess it will just stay hooked up as a "Planet Earth" HD player for my fiancee. :p

I still haven't gotten my 5 free HD-DVD movies from October, though...

I will keep mine and maybe score a few more HD DVDs (that are exclusive to the format) at dirt cheap prices. Otherwise I'll use it to watch the ones I already have. I received it as a gift, so I'm not broken up about it, and I actually think it is a cool thing to have, like having a Beta Max player or something :).

i can say for 100% certainty that this will never ever happen.

everyone who bought one knew the situation at hand and knew the risk and possiblity that this may happen. it just sucks for them that it did happen.

QFT I was just gonna say that everybody bought these knowing full well there was a format war going on and only one would remain.

I saw it for $50 on Amazon, though out of stock. If it was in stock I almost definitely would have bought it.

$50 for the player, remote, King Kong, and 5 other movies is not too bad, even if it is discontinued.

However, I have since decided not to buy it on an impulse and instead wait until the new PS3 with rumble controllers comes out and put the $50 toward that. Thanks Amazon for keeping my frivolous spending at bay.... for now.

WTF did you expect? Everyone knew that it was almost a certainty that one format or the other was going to die sooner rather than later, and all signs pointed to HD-DVD. Suing over a failed product is idiotic. And expecting Microsoft to continue producing them after Toshiba gave up is also idiotic.

exactly, if the 360 failed today and was discontinued, would you expect Sony to give you a discount on a PS3?
