The only problem is, something went wrong and I now have multiple accounts and Inboxes after importing the PST file. I can recall this happening about 2 years ago after a reinstall and going through days of hell trying to fix it.

If anyone can lend a hand, i'd be grateful. I honestly am tearing my hair out as this nightmare will not end.

1) if there is no new data that was downloaded into the pst
Have 2 copies of the pst
1a named backup
2b the one that you are actually using

Delete all the account out of outlook, using the Mail setting in Control Panel.
While still in the Mail Control Panel, Create your account.
While creating the account, you can specify a new or existing pst file.
Select existing, and point it to the pst that is number 2b above, your actual pst that you will use

2) if there is new data, backup your current pst. named backup2.pst
Do the same steps above.
Now to import the data from backup2
Open Outlook, go to File - Open -> Import from File, click next, Outlook data file, click next
Select Backup2.pst -> select Do NOT import duplicates, click next
Make sure you select the top most item in the list, the Outlook Data File.
And make sure to select Import Items into the same folder in (Account Name drop down)

Click finish and wait.. depending on how big your pst is will depend on how fast it goes.
once done you should have the 1 account with one inbox will all your data.

I have seem some times on an occasion at the end of the import it many not close the 2nd pst after the import, so you can just right click on the 2nd personal folders item and select close

That should get you up and running again

Well I am even worse off than before.

When I opened Outlook 2010 for the first time I did not set up an account. I think that was my mistake. I imported the PST file and found that it did not create the account as I thought it would.

So I tried adding an account. That made things worse and I had two inboxes, neither functional.

Then I uninstalled Office 2010 and started over and tried creating an account first. But it errored over and over again because of remnants of the last install and I ended up with two accounts. Again, neither functional.

I ended up uninstalling that install of Office 2010 and tried again. But the same thing happened. I used CCleaner to remove Office 2010.

So now I have nothing. But I am also certain that if I try and install Office yet again it will be a disaster for me.

Right now there are TWO .pst files here:
C:\Users\Matt\My Documents\Outlook Files

Neither is the PST file from my last computer. That currently sits on an external drive ready to be imported. So neither PST on my C drive is correct.

And how can there be a PST file when I already removed Office 2010?

I am truly stuck here and have no idea how to proceed.

Delete all the account out of outlook, using the Mail setting in Control Panel.
While still in the Mail Control Panel, Create your account.
MAIL has disappeared from my Control Panel. It is no longer there. So now what?

Ok Lets see if we can start from scratch.

1 - Yes pst will still be there even if you removed office. so that is why the are there. Although when setting up the account new it should not use the ones there but create a new one.

2 - Remove any and all psts in the C: \Users\Matt\My Documents\Outlook Files that are not the correct pst.

3 - the mail icon is gone as you have removed outlook/office 2010.

Once those steps are done then we can proceed.

1 - Re-install Office/Outlook 2010, do not open outlook after the install

2 - Copy your valid PST file from your external drive to C: \Users\Matt\My Documents\Outlook Files

3 - go into control panel, open the Mail Control Panel (if you do not see it switch from categories to large icons)

4 - There should be no profiles listed in here. If there is just delete them as they are not vaild anyway.

5 - Create a new profile, name it as you wish. On the Add Account, Select Manually Configure the account

6 - Select Internet email i am assuming.

7 - Add you account details as needed, the big one is the Deliver New Messages setting at the bottom right.
Select Existing Outlook Data File, click on Browse and go to C: \Users\Matt\My Documents\Outlook Files and select your pst file that you copied from your external drive

8 - Provided all your account settings is correct click on next and then finish.

9 - Open up outlook and you will have all you old mail and the account should be working

It's at #7 where your instructions fail to correspond with what I am seeing. There is nothing about "Deliver new messages" and I cannot find a point where I can add the PST file.

I followed the instructions you gave. After copying my PST file back to the C drive and opening MAIL in control panel and deleting the Outlook profile that was in there, I created a NEW PROFILE (naming it Outlook 2010) and MANUALLY configured it. I used all my old SMTP settings and made sure to check everything with Godaddy's web page (they give very clear guidelines).

It tested the settings and it worked. But I never came across Deliver New Messages setting at the bottom right and therefore could not select the PST file.

And once again... I have TWO PST files! The one I moved over and the one that was somehow just created.

This is an IMPOSSIBLE vicious circle!!!

Ok what it looks like it might auto configure the settings.

Close outlook. Go into Control Panel -> Mail
Click on the Data Files button which will bring you to the data files tab as you posted in the pic.
Click on the Add Button, browse to your correct pst file.
now you will see 2 psts in the list.
Select the correct pst.
Click on Set as Default. This will make it so any new mail will come in and be stored in the correct pst file. (You many need to Open outlook at this point before proceeding further to remove )

If there is noting you need to save out of the old one. you can click on it and click remove. This takes it out of outlook.

If there is nothing in the 2nd pst file you can delete it out of your outlook files folder as well

The current eula doesn't have a limit mentioned but it does state that you can continue to use the software after you leave school. I was in dreamspark earlier today and read the eula as I searched for a more recent version of office for myself as I run 2010 pro. I stopped keeping my mail locally and eliminated the pst garbage. Using mail as mapi or imap keeps it all on the server so you never lose it.

I bought Office 2010 Professional off Ebay ... seller said it was brand new and it came in a Full Retail Package, with the Cardboard Box, Plastic Clam Shell and the Hologram DVD saying Microsoft and Genuine .. It also came with seemed to be a REAL Product Key .. It would not activate. Microsoft says the key has been Blocked due to being Pirated sometime in 2012 .. Not sure how that is, as it looks like I bought a real copy. Needless to say, those M*Fers at Microsoft will not fix the Key. They say they would if I bought from them, but otherwise must deal with who sold it to me. Naturally, I was not going to pay their outrageous price for Office ... Opened a dispute with Ebay and the Seller .. so far, nothing back. We will see how it goes. And there are ways around this issue, but they can not be discussed here.

I've seen similar products being offered on amazon and I've avoided them. Fortunately I was able to get my copies from MS through my university so I know they are genuine. Anytime I see someone offering supposedly genuine software at heavily discounted prices it throws up a red flag. I was able to get win 7 ult x64 from viosoftware for much cheaper than anyone else several years ago but even their office prices are high.

If he obtained the key indeed legally I would know what to do, but of course can't discuss this here.

Very smart. Ebay is flooded with fake copies (very good ones!) of Microsoft products.

Needless to say, those M*Fers at Microsoft will not fix the Key.

I suppose you can get mad at Microsoft if it helps you feel better about being taken by an Ebay seller, but it's certainly not a rational response. :\

I have opened a dispute at Ebay and will see if I get my money back, I also did a preliminary claim of counterfeit software at Microsoft. If Ebay does not fix it, then I will send it in to Microsoft. If they determine it really is a fake, they might replace it. Time will tell.

Ebay has refunded my money. Now I can send the fake to Microsoft's counterfeit department. Who knows what will happen. They may replace it with a real one and they just may put a counterfeiter out of business and in jail.

Roughly 99% of the Microsoft software listed on ebay is counterfeit. No company in the world feels obligated to support counterfeit knockoffs. Why you feel you are entitled, I'm not sure...

Mainly because the seller said it was genuine and had excellent feedback. I never buy from someone with little or bad feedback. And since the product is about 4 years old, the price seemed reasonable given what the exorbitant retail cost of MS Office is. But I did get my money back, so nothing is really lost,

Except your time and trouble. Can't get those refunded. Glad you got your $ back tho.

And not the misplaced sense of entitlement. That should have quickly been lost.

Check with the IT department at your work place. They may have deals with MS similar to that at your school.

Office from the university's dreamspark account is free :). I've received 2010 pro plus and 2013 pro plus from them so far and I'm hoping that 2016 pro plus will show up before too long. If they make it available I will update the 2010 on my desktop to it and move it to my tablet. Otherwise my office 365 expires in March and I'll have to drop back to a freebee like libre office to get the job done not that I really use it for office apps.

I suggest you keep the full installer files for Office 2010 and Office 2013 along with the Product Codes to reactivate them in the future if you need them again. Unless the school invalidates the keys when they change to a newer version.
