I am currently running FS98 and love it. i've had it since the day it came out and havent had problems with it yet. i have quite a large amount of aircraft and scenery installed right now, so what i mean to ask is what is better? FS98 or FS2K? i would hate to have to install a new game and reinstall all the aircraft and scenery i already have installed, and trust me its wuite time-consuming. if FS2K is significantly better then i will buy it. so...

Is the transition from FS98 to FS2K a difficult one? (i.e. does it take much time and effort to get used to the changes and differences?)

I love Flight Sim 2000 (Pro). FS98 was a fantastic product but 2000 is better (although i didnt have all the extras installed in 98). If you are a dab hand at 98 then 2k might seem a little disorienting at first (although a lot of things are identical). The main thing i liked about 2k was the enhanced visual experience that was possible.

I would heartily recommend it. My only concern would be your PC setup- as i was running on a P3 700/128 meg ram and TNT2 and found it a bit slow. I do believe your V5500 would help a fair bit (and might allow FSAA ya lucky _beggar).

Sunny im assuming you have slot one, you could probably get a PIII 500 in there without having to change anything, and you could get one pretty cheap.

Actually i'm going to upgrade my computer over christmas break. i have a CUSL2, 2 sticks of Mushkin 128MB PC133 rev2, and i'm getting a P3 700. i havent had time to put it together, so i'll be doing it when i have some time off around christmas. i plan on overclocking to 933 mHz, maybe even more if i'm lucky. i guess i should have mentioned my future system specs to give people a better idea of how well it would handle FS2K's enhanced graphics. i will be using the Voodoo 5 5500 in my mew system also...

Both FS98 and FS2K are good in their own right. FS98 though, is getting a little dated. FS2K improves upon all that is good with FS98 and then some. Just as FS2002 or whatever will hopefully improve upon FS2K.

With that in mind, be aware that much of your FS98 aircraft and scenery may not be very compatible with FS2K. They were probably specifically written or converted for FS95/FS98. So it makes no real sense to import these files into FS2K. Instead, if you have the hard drive space, keep the FS98 installation intact and install FS2K. That way you can still run FS98 with your favorite aircraft, and start building your FS2K library by searching for FS2K specific files. At a later date when you find you're simming more with FS2K than FS98, then you might decide to uninstall FS98.

I run both. Only because I haven't yet found a FS2K equivalent of a killer 757/767 FS98 panel I use. You also may want to start looking for FS2K files now to see what's out there. It might help you with your decision.

With your new specs, performance wont be a problem. Feister's offers some pretty smart advice

Well i just realized that Hanukkah is coming up and i could ask for FS2K. i saw the Professional Edition on the shelf the other day in a few different stores, and they all have $20 rebates on them...probably for the holidays. and i'm sure it would run pretty smooth with the system setup i plan on putting together over christmas break. well thanks for all the advice everyone :)
