Can/Do games like this simulate areas of thermal lift, and sink? Or ridge lift off the side of hills/mountains?

Not sure. There is an option in the menu of fsx to 'view thermals'. Never turned it on.

Well, I spent like 3 hours getting FSX reinstalled, installed REX2(http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/) and all of its updates. Tinkered with some other payware stuff I had purchased in the past.

It looks way better than Flight, plays better, has ai communications, ai aircraft.. etc.

It runs quite nice on my computer. E8400 core2duo, 4gb ram, geforce gtx460.
Pretty much all visual effects are maxed. (I backed off shadows a bit)

I'm pretty sure that REX2 has a memory leak though. After a couple of hours my framerate drops below the teens. I didn't have framerates showing or anything so I don't have specific numbers. It's worth the trouble because damn it looks nice.

The installation for FSX wouldn't run on my copy of windows 7 64. A quick google search of the error led me to a Microsoft-created fix for the installer. Just ran it, it changed some stuff then the installer would run fine.

I'm still pissed that I wasted money on Flight. ugh
