Microsoft Find Fast

My computer has been having problems where it just seems to sit there and load something that i cannot determine. I'm not loading any programs or anything. I will just be sitting looking at my desktop and the hard drive sounds like it is loading a program or something. But I don't have anything running. Also my floppy drive will load something also but theres no disk in the floppy drive nor did I try to search through it. When the computer does this, its not constant, it will only last for about a 5 minnute period but is still very annoying. During one of these little "load sessions" I tried opening up the End Task menu to see if I could shut off a program that might be causing it. After a few tries, the only way to make this problem stop is to shut off Microsoft Find Fast. When i do end task the program, it always says its not responding. So simply enough I uncheck Microsoft Find Fast in the Msconfig startup menu so I won't have to deal with it again. But that did not work. After restarting my computer, it was sitll up there and the box was re-checked for some reason. Whenever I start my computer I can't get rid of Find Fast without manually shutting it down! What does this program do anyway!? And how do you turn it off? Is there something that I need to change in the Registry Editor?

fast find is part of office, and by far the worse thing to have running out of the office suite..

to get rid of it.. just go to control panel.. add remove programs.. and click remove on office.. it will give you options to add/remove office components.. go to office tools and take the check off of fast find..

I don't think that will work with Office 2000. The custom install allows you to select the "Find Fast Control Panel" but that is just what it is - a control panel. The actual Find Fast component is installed regardless of whether you have the control panel installed or not. I found out about this when I installed Office 2000 on my girlfriend's computer, and unchecked Find Fast Control Panel, but FF still came up occasionally during normal operations.

The one way I figured out to disable the stupid app is to remove "Microsoft Office" from the Startup folder in the Start Menu. I think that is the culprit that initializes FF when you start up your system.
