Microsoft Expected to Release Windows 8.1 ISOs This Month

Microsoft has launched the Windows 8.1 exclusively via the store, with several company officials explaining that no stand-alone ISOs would be released.

Now it turns out that someone in Redmond had a change of heart, as Microsoft might actually launch Windows 8.1 ISOs later this month.

One of our readers told us that Microsoft’s support staff confirmed such plans, which would basically provide users with a second option for updating, but also with an easier way to perform a clean install.

At this point, Windows 8.1 ISOs are already available for download for MSDN and TechNet subscribers, while end users can get it via a simple trick, but beginners might still have a hard time trying to get their hands on the files.

We’re still waiting for an official statement from Redmond, so we’ve reached out to Microsoft for a word on this.

Good for those with deployment methods that do not rely on outside internet, Microsoft store, or those that religiously follow the clean install.

But to clean install and reinstall software (and associated patches for each third party software), I would take the upgrade method for end single users. If there is a problem software, usually it involves reinstalling the problem software as older libraries maybe overwritten, the third party software does not know how to make use of newer libraries, or the software needs a compatibility mode.

i will try out windows 8.1 when i upgrade my brothers pc and if it's good i will use windows 8.1 instead on windows 7.

I have been using it on my home/gaming machine and have been liking it.

The few improvements that I like are
1) boot to desktop
2) sort desktop apps before metro/modern apps
3) search works again like in 7
4) and this is probably the biggest, set same desktop background on start screen as desktop background.

the last one is a huge psychological thing that I'm surprised that it works so well, it does not feel as jarring when going from desktop to start

I like having diffrent background on my Metro Start screen to the old desktop UI,preference thing I guess, regardless I'm happy with Win8.1 🙂 .

I hope they push out an image that will accept, retail, OEM and upgrade keys and have the media center key issue fixed.
