Please help diagnose the problem I am having with excel.
Currently I have a summary file which links to other excel files located in the same folder as the summary excel file.
Sometimes I can have the summary excel file open and when I edit the excel files it is linking to the summary file does not update. The link in located in the summary page cell will be long format.
='Y:\KMB Projects\lettersWG\NativeNoHW\[costs.xls]METRIC'!G2
If I close all of the files that the summary file gets info from, go to the link page and open sources this will fix my problem. The values will update as they are changed in the file that the summary page is linked to. When it is working correctly like this the cell in excel will show the following formula.
=[costs.xls]METRIC!G2
Why do I have to go through the open source links process all the time? What causes excel to not want to update and what can I do to fix that when I normally open the file?
