Microsoft Excel Help

I converted one of my database files into excel and now it has special characters such as square (which I think is the return key) and acts like a space. How do I get rid of it? I tried doing a find and replace but the square won't display on the find scroll down and whenever I paste it, it just gives me a blank space. Any help?
